Keeping our Neighborhoods Safe
We all want to live in a community that is safe and free of violence. By working with local police and local community groups we can address violence in our community and work to ensure the safety of our families.
Working with the East Boston Collaborative and City Councilor Felix Arroyo’s office, I have helped build the alliances necessary to keep our neighborhoods safe. I organized meetings with every police captain in Boston and the Police Commissioner, in an effort to help them relate more effectively with the city’s youth.
As our State Representative, I will continue my work to ensure that our community’s concerns about public safety are heard. I will promote community policing by increasing the number of beat cops who walk the streets and interact with residents and business owners. I will also support community programs to keep our youth active and engaged in a safe way.
Improving Our Public Schools
I understand the important role that education plays in the lives of all our families. I graduated from East Boston High School and worked full time putting myself through Bunker Hill Community College and earning my Bachelors Degree at Emerson. I have been actively involved in my son’s education at the O’Donnell Elementary School here in East Boston. I have seen first hand the benefits that dedicated teachers and an involved community has given him and his classmates. I have also seen the challenges that our schools face.
I know that we must provide the necessary support for our children, teachers, and administrators so that our schools can excel. Our investment in the education of all the children in East Boston, should reflect how we value education and all of the opportunities it provides.
As your State Representative, I will work to ensure that our schools have the resources they need to succeed—quality teachers, small class sizes, a well rounded curriculum, and active community and parental involvement.
Quality, Affordable Healthcare for All
Everyone deserves access to quality and affordable healthcare. Too many people still lack access to the care they need and too many families and small businesses are being hurt by the rising cost of care.
I serve on the Board of the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center and I have seen firsthand the importance of providing quality care, including preventive care, to all our families.
As our State Representative, I will work to ensure that healthcare reform in Massachusetts works for the families of East Boston and that we continue to expand coverage and lower costs. I work will make sure that small, community health centers are given the resources they need to best serve our neighborhoods. And I will work to develop comprehensive prevention programs to help our children lead healthy lives and lower the cost of care in the long run.
Open and Accountable Government
I have a track record of openness and accountability through my work in City government and in our community. As your State Representative, I will engage the community on public safety, quality education, accessible healthcare and all our families concerns. And I will always be accountable to the people of East Boston. I will be a voice for all of us on Beacon Hill.
