Meet Gloribell Mota
Gloribell Mota graduated from East Boston High School. She is now raising her own family in the community. She has been very involved in the community and has advocated for our families at the state level.
Gloribell has worked hard to advance quality education in East Boston. She is extremely active in the School Parent Council, the School Site Council, and the Parents Committee of East Boston Ecumenical Community Council (EBECC). Gloribell believes that family and community involvement are critical components to the academic success of students.
After East Boston High, Gloribell went on to receive a Bachelors Degree from Emerson College in Boston and an Associates Degree from Bunker Hill Community College in Charlestown.
Throughout her career Gloribell has been committed to social and economic justice. She has worked to expand affordable housing in the neighborhood, provide access for all families to affordable healthcare, promote small businesses in our community, and engage citizens in civic life. She has served on the Board of Directors for Neighborhoods of Affordable Housing (NOAH), the East Boston Health Center, and Action for Boston Community Development, Inc (ABCD). She has been involved with several local coalitions and initiatives including the East Boston Collaborative, East Boston Latino Community Coalition, the Community Organizing Project of NOAH, and Community Partners for a New Superintendent.
Gloribell served as the Executive Director of the Mary Ellen McCormack Task Force in South Boston, where she provided direct services and advocated for residents of public housing and helped struggling families down the road to self sufficient. She has also served as the Education Coordinator for the State Tax Fairness Program at United for a Fair Economy (UFE), where she advocated for restoring cuts to essential services and worked to close corporate loopholes.
Recently, Gloribell served as the Organizing Director for At-Large City Councilor, Felix D. Arroyo. Gloribell worked directly with residents and advocacy groups to develop policy at the city level. Gloribell has worked to promote accountability and transparency in city government through community report backs and direct communication with community-based organizations.
She was born in the US and comes from a family of immigrants. Her mother is from El Salvador and her father is from the Dominican Republic. Both her mother and her father were the first in their family to immigrate to the United States.
Gloribell and her older brother were raised by their mother who worked in a factory at $3.35 an hour to support her family. She instilled in them the importance of family, honesty, respect and a strong work ethic.
Gloribell is a mother of two. Eddie, eleven, recently graduated from the O’Donnell Elementary School. Genesis, three, will soon attend the East Boston Early Education Center. Gloribell, her children and her mother live in Jeffries Point.
